TN sanctions Rs 2,950 cr for road works
In Tamil Nadu, more than 2,400 road works will be undertaken across the state at a cost of Rs 2,950 crore as part of the Integrated Road Development programme.The State Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on July 24 ordered the allocation for the works that would improve connectivity, besides reducing fuel consumption and travel time. The allocation for this fiscal was higher ? Rs 2,262 crore was set aside last financial year.
People demand to execute 3-road project in Tripunithura
In Kerala, residents of Tripunithura Municipality in Ernakulam district have sought the implementation of three-road development project proposed by the municipality to prevent petroleum and other bullet tankers from using the busy roads. According to the local people, the proposals to widening the Mamala-Chithrapuzha Bund Road (from Thiruvankulam to Manakkapadi via Kochi-Madurai bypass) and the Manakkapadi-Vyttila Road (via Eroor and Kaniyampuzha) must be taken up on priority basis.
Locals file case against road widening in Hyd
In Hyderabad, the Lokayukta has registered a case against Serilingampally MLA Bikshapathi Yadav and GHMC Commissioner MT Krishna Babu in connection with a road widening project from Botanical Gardens in Kondapur to the Old Bombay Highway. The case has been registered following a complaint filed by residents of Masid Banda village. According to the complaint, the widening will lead to encroachment upon reserve forest land and a water body.
BMC to count vehicles first before taking road works
In a first of its kind in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to conduct vehicle counts on roads in the city before taking up any road infrastructure project. The civic body has decided to buy at least two vehicle-counting machines to start with and these will be installed on those particular roads which may require infrastructural changes.
